Four different sites

This directory includes all three landfills and the single transfer station listed by the city. Walden is for small amounts of household waste in bins. Its role and weekday opening times differ from the landfill sites.

At diversion areas, separate recyclable materials into their proper areas, such as scrap metal into its metal bin. The gate fee is not a flat all-inclusive disposal price and does not replace material-specific tipping charges.

Seasonal and holiday closures

Summer hours run May 1 to September 30; winter hours run October 1 to April 30. All sites close Sundays. They also close New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Victoria Day, the August Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

During the annual Residential Tipping Fee Holiday Week, Walden’s hours match the landfills. This does not establish the dates of the next event or waive every possible charge; use the dated city notice before planning around it.

Avoid an unnecessary trip

The city encourages eligible households to use organics, recycling, yard-waste and requested large-item collection. Hazardous-waste home pickup is a separate Toxic Taxi service. Eligibility and preparation still matter.

The city identifies free Blue Box drop-off on Frobisher Street and producer programs for selected electronics, tires, lightbulbs, medicines and sharps. Those external programs have their own accepted-item lists. A reusable item can also be donated or sold rather than discarded.
